Building Trust: The Essential Ingredient for Social Investment – Key Fund Report

/ Capacity Building, Learning Resource

Supported by the Connect Fund, Key Fund commissioned a study to explore whether a lack of trust is presenting a challenge for VCSEs when accessing social investment.

The issue was first raised at a funding and investment meeting, convened by VONNE, during which it became clear that several established voluntary sector organisations had questions about the motivation of social investors and lacked trust in their investment decisions.

The study comprised of a desk research, which reviewed existing studies in this area, and in-depth interviews with VCSEs, which were carried out by 5 local infrastructure organisations across a wide geographical spread in England. The Key Fund approach was to: identify key issues; understand existing thinking; explore the issues across geography, organisational typed and sizes; collate results; identify trends and report.
